In theory, recycling is great. In practice, results vary greatly around the globe. Often recycling is wealthy countries simply sending their trash elsewhere, with mixed results. So what do we do if trash is a global problem, but we lack a viable global business model to fix it? Upcycling may be the answer. By turning trash into something we already need, often at a lower cost than making it from scratch.
